Gordner Announces Grant for Berwick

(HARRISBURG) – The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has awarded a grant to Community Strategies Group for a project in Berwick, Columbia County, according to Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).  Through his strong support, funds were made available through the Blight Remediation program.

The grant, in the amount of $275,000, will be used for Phase 1 of the Canal Street Reclamation and Reuse Project, which includes the acquisition and mitigation of a blighted property, the historic 117-year-old train station and four acres of riverfront property.  The site will be utilized for community activities, including an off-street alternative for popular events that currently require shutting down main roadways through town.

“I am pleased that the CFA has awarded this grant,” said Senator Gordner.  “This should be the start of the greater use of the riverfront in downtown Berwick.”

The Commonwealth Financing Agency was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus programs.
