HARRISBURG – Reps. Fred Keller (R-Snyder/Union), Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder) and Sen. John Gordner (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Montour/Northumberland/Snyder) are working with state and local officials to provide support and assistance to employees who lost their jobs when Wood-Mode closed abruptly on Monday.
The lawmakers have posted information about a variety of resources on their legislative websites, www.RepFredKeller.com, www.RepCulver.com and www.SenatorGordner.com. The sites, which include links to the state’s Bureau of Unemployment Compensation and contact information for the local CareerLink Center, will be updated as additional information becomes available.
The Department of Labor and Industry has deployed its Rapid Response Team to assist, and a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at Weber Chapel at Susquehanna University, 514 University Ave., Selinsgrove. Officials will outline all of the services available to displaced workers, such as unemployment insurance, health and pension benefits, financial credit counseling, training programs, job search activities, education services, and social service programs. The meeting is open only to employees.
“These are obviously very difficult times for every affected employee and their families,” Keller said. “The state does offer a variety of services to help, and we are doing our best to facilitate and ensure everyone gets the help and support they need.”
Culver agreed. “It’s important for the hard-working people who lost their jobs to know they are not alone, and we will do all we can to help them.”
The lawmakers encouraged impacted employees to apply promptly for unemployment compensation and to reach out to the local CareerLink center for job search and job training assistance. CareerLink is located at 225 Market St. in Sunbury and can be reached by phone at
570-988-7300. CareerLink is hosting a job fair on Wednesday, May 22, at the Selinsgrove VFW,
940 U.S. 522 in Selinsgrove. The event is open from 1-5 p.m. Nearly three dozen area employers and schools are scheduled to participate.
Keller’s, Culver’s and Gordner’s websites will be updated with additional information as it becomes available. Impacted employees are encouraged to check the sites – www.RepFredKeller.com, www.RepCulver.com and www.SenatorGordner.com– periodically.
