Safe Schools Grants Announced

(HARRISBURG) – The Pennsylvania Department of Education announced nearly $8.4 million in competitive Safe Schools Targeted grants statewide today, according to Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).

Safe Schools Targeted grants are broken up into four categories: safety and security-related equipment, violence prevention programs, training and compensation for School Resource Officers and training and compensation for School Police Officers.

“I am pleased that Governor Tom Wolf and the Department of Education have awarded these crucial funds to so many schools in my Senatorial District,” said Senator Gordner.  “Because of this action, students, teachers, administrators and other staff will be safer while in the school setting.”

“Parents must feel safe sending their kids to school, and students deserve a safe and healthy environment where they can grow, learn and succeed,” said Department of Education Secretary Pedro A. Rivera. “This targeted funding helps schools secure the resources they need to provide a safe environment and builds on the Wolf Administration’s commitment to students and teachers across the commonwealth.”
