Senator Gordner to Again Chair Labor and Industry Committee

Also retains caucus leadership post, other Committee assignments

(HARRISBURG) – Sen. John R. Gordner (R-27) has been named Chairman of the Senate Labor and Industry Committee for the 2013-2014 session of the General Assembly. Senator Gordner has also been reappointed to his post as Majority Caucus Administrator for the session.  Both appointments were announced by Senate President Pro Tempore Joseph Scarnati (R-25).

“Since beginning my tenure as Chairman of Labor and Industry in 2006, the Committee has dealt with a series of important issues, including Workers’ Compensation, Building Code reform, workforce development and last session’s major Unemployment Compensation reform package,” said the Senator.  “Our Committee has worked in a bipartisan manner to address these major issues, and I look forward to the challenges of a new session.”

The Labor and Industry Committee will hold its first public hearing of the new session on January 29 to hear from the Secretary of the Department of Labor and Industry on issues relating to Unemployment Compensation Call Center issues.

Senator Gordner will continue to serve on several other important Senate Committees: Appropriations; Community, Economic & Recreational Development; Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure; Judiciary and Transportation.

“As an advocate for addressing funding issues for roads and bridges, I am especially looking forward to working on the Transportation Committee this session,” said Senator Gordner.  “In addition to addressing transportation funding, my priorities will include enacting another on-time, responsible budget and continuing efforts at strengthening our workforce development system to link training programs with available jobs.”
