Senator Gordner Urges Volunteer Fire Companies And Ambulance Squads To Apply For State Funding

(HARRISBURG) – State Senator John R. Gordner today reminded area volunteer fire companies and ambulance services that the application period for the 2012-2013 Volunteer Service Grant Program has opened.  Volunteer fire departments are eligible for grants of up to $15,000 and ambulance companies are eligible for grants of up to $10,000.

“In June, we approved legislation to extend this successful program supporting our local volunteers for four more years, and we were able to increase the amount available to the program,” said Senator Gordner.  “This year, up to $30 million is available for the grants and I urge all area companies to apply.”

Fire and ambulance services may use the funding to upgrade facilities and equipment, reduce debt associated with facilities and equipment and provide training for volunteers.  Applications are available through the Office of State Fire Commissioner’s website at
