Senator Gordner Announces Availability of Farmers’ Market Development Grants

(HARRISBURG) – – The application period for grant applications under the Farmers’ Market Development Matching Grant Program is now open, according to Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).  The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

“Farmers’ markets are fixtures in many of our central Pennsylvania communities because you can purchase fresh from the farm products at reasonable prices,” said the Senator.  “This program is an excellent way for the state to continue to support this unique and valuable service.”

The program provides matching funds to individual farmers, Pennsylvania based businesses that operate farmers’ markets, non profit organizations, and local governments for projects that promote new or existing farmers’ markets.  The maximum grant amount is $10,000 and there is an applicant match of at least ten percent of the grant award that is required.  Senator Gordner said the required match can be in funds or through in-kind goods or services.

Applications are being accepted by the Department of Agriculture through February 6.  Additional information and application forms are available on the Department’s website at or by contacting the Department’s Bureau of Food Distribution at (800) 468-2433.
