Senator Gordner Named Chairman of Senate Committee

(HARRISBURG) – – State Senator John R. Gordner (R-27) has been appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor and Industry.  The appointment was announced by Senate President Pro Tempore Robert C. Jubelirer (R-30) and is effective immediately.

“The committee handles issues that are important to the economic future of our communities.  We depend upon our committee chairman to bridge the gap between business and labor to build productive solutions and create a better climate for job creation,” said Senator Jubelirer.  “Senator Gordner is extremely knowledgeable on these issues and has an extensive track record of producing thoughtful, practical and effective results.  He will do an outstanding job in this position.”

“I look forward to assuming the chair of this important committee,” said Senator Gordner.  “The committee deals with many complex issues involving labor, private sector employers, workers and unemployment compensation and other issues related to workplace and construction safety.  It is a challenge that I look forward to assuming,” added the Senator.

Senator Gordner named Todd B. Roup as the committee’s Executive Director and Vonda Treaster as the committee’s Executive Secretary, noting that both have experience in similar legislative committee assignments.

Senator Gordner said the committee will take action this fall on legislation that deals with the Workers’ Compensation Act to incorporate a series of proposed reform measures, as well as working with the state Department of Labor and Industry to finalize regulations dealing with reimbursement of medical expenses for treatment of injuries under the Workers’ Compensation Act.
