FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Gordner Announces Funding for Sunbury Sewer UpgradesHARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today approved a $1.893 million loan to upgrade the sewer system in Sunbury, according to state Sen. John R. Gordner (R-27). The funding will allow the Municipal Authority of the City of Sunbury to separate 7,870 feet of combined sewer in the Hill area, rehabilitate or replace manholes and catch basins and install collection system cleanouts. "Wet weather brings the risk of sewer overflows into the Shamokin Creek, which carries a significant risk to public health," Senator Gordner said. "These upgrades will help to prevent and minimize the risk of overflows to protect the health of Sunbury residents." PENNVEST is an independent state agency that provides financial assistance to upgrade sewer, water, storm water and drinking water projects throughout the Commonwealth.
