Scott Township Man Nominated for Judicial Post

Senator Gordner Will Work for Quick Senate Confirmation

(HARRISBURG) - - Governor Ed Rendell has nominated a Scott Township man for the vacant Bloomsburg-area Magisterial District Judge post, according to State Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).  Russell "Rusty" Lawton has been nominated to fill the unexpired term of the Honorable Donna J. Coombe, who retired earlier this year.  In the May Primary Election, Lawton won both the Republican and Democratic nominations for a full term for the seat that will begin in January 2010.

"I was pleased to recommend Rusty to the Governor for nomination so that the vacant seat may be filled before January," said Senator Gordner.  "I will work for an expeditious consideration of the nomination by the Senate."

Since winning Primary nominations for the seat, Lawton has successfully completed Magisterial District Justice Certification and was notified of the certification this week, leading to the nomination.

The Judicial District serves Bloomsburg, Scott Township and Montour Township.
