Funding Available for Innovative Energy Projects

(HARRISBURG) - - The Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority (PEDA) is offering funding for innovative and advanced energy projects, according to Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).

"The PEDA guidelines allow for consideration of projects such as manufacturing of alternative or energy efficient equipment, the development of new energy technologies, the generation of alternative energy or the production of alternative fuels," said Senator Gordner.

Individual projects may be funded up to $1.5 million and applicants may include Pennsylvania municipalities and public corporations, colleges and universities, non-profit corporations and other legal business entities.  The activities funded must be conducted in Pennsylvania.

"Recent increases in energy prices are straining budgets of consumers and companies. These programs will help spur the development of energy from sources such as solar, wind and biomass—all of which Pennsylvania has in abundance.  By supporting these technologies and opening new markets to their use, we're not only working to create new jobs, but also making these alternatives more cost effective for consumers, which will save them money on their energy bills," said Senator Gordner.

Applications will be accepted by PEDA until May 29.  Applications and guidelines are available on the Department of Environmental Protection's website at www.depweb.state.pa.us (Keyword: PEDA).
