(HARRISBURG) – The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) awarded a grant to the Shamokin Creek Restoration Alliance today, according to state Senator John R. Gordner. Funds are available through the state’s Growing Greener program.
The grant will be used for a comprehensive assessment of the Quaker Run and Buck Run sub-watersheds within the Shamokin Creek watershed in Northumberland County. The assessment will be used to create a watershed restoration plan that will identify and prioritize restoration projects to reduce existing stream impairment within these watersheds. The grant is in the amount of $85,575.
“I am pleased that DEP recognized the significance of this study,” said Senator Gordner. “It will go a long way toward identifying the best ways to battle acid mine drainage and restore local watersheds to acceptable levels.”
