(HARRISBURG) – SCI Retreat and SCI Frackville will remain open, according to Senator John R. Gordner (R-27).
“I am pleased that these two facilities, which employ many dedicated people from my district, have been spared from closure by Governor Tom Wolf and the Department of Corrections,” said Senator Gordner.
A hearing in Harrisburg on Monday attended by many members of the Senate, including Senator Gordner, shed light on the potential closing of several prisons across the state and allowed members to provide input to the Administration. Further, a letter expressing significant concerns with these potential closures was signed by all members of the Northeast Delegation of the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives and delivered to the Governor on January 17, 2017.
“This is good news for those men and women that work tirelessly to keep SCIs Retreat and Frackville running smoothly and safely,” added Senator Gordner. “It is also great news for the communities that house these facilities because their loss would have had a tremendous economic impact.”
